Spiritual Wellness
What is Spiritual Wellness?
A holistic approach to life includes active participation in your health decisions and healing processes, and to make wellness-oriented lifestyle choices.
Spiritual wellness means to possess a set of guiding beliefs, principles, or values that give meaning and purpose to life. When spiritually well, you have the capacity for love, compassion, forgiveness, joy, and fulfillment. You are at peace which helps positively tackle anger, fear, anxiety and other negative feelings.
Spirituality can have different meanings to different people. Some believe in God, others in science, meditation, a higher being, etc. Religion may play a part in some people’s spirituality, but there are many different ways to explore and express spirituality depending on an individual’s personal beliefs, cultural contexts, and upbringings. Spirituality allows us to find the inner calm and peace needed to get through whatever life brings, no matter what one's beliefs are or where they may be on your spiritual journey.
Spiritual Wellness is a personal matter involving values and beliefs that provide a purpose in our lives. While different individuals may have different views of what spiritualism is, it is generally considered to be the search for meaning and purpose in human existence, leading one to strive for a state of harmony with oneself and others while working to balance inner needs with the rest of the world.
There are eight dimensions of wellness: physical, emotional, spiritual, environmental, financial, social, intellectual and occupational.
These dimensions are interrelated with another and are equally vital in the pursuit of optimum health. By understanding, maintaining and optimizing each dimension of wellness, an optimal level of health and wellness can be reached.
The spiritual wellness dimension recognizes our search for purpose in human existence. It involves cultivating meaning in life and finding connections to the world outside yourself.
Why is Spiritual Wellness Important?
The human spirit is often the most neglected aspect of our self. In today’s fast-paced world, there is so much distraction which draws us away. Many of us do not even know who we really are, why we are here and what our unique purpose is on this planet, in this universe, in this time.
Just as we exercise to condition our bodies, a healthy spirit is nurtured by purposeful practice. Our spirit is an aspect of our self that can carry us through anything. When we are spiritually well, we are able to experience a sense of peace and purpose even when life deals us a severe blow.
A strong spirit helps us to survive and thrive with grace, even in the face of difficulty. Spiritual wellness works to align actions, beliefs, and values. It is important for everyone to explore what they believe is their own sense of meaning and purpose.
Reaching Spiritual Wellness:
The path to spiritual wellness may involve meditation, prayer, affirmations, or specific spiritual practices that support a connection to a higher power or belief system. Yoga and meditation can also help develop spiritual wellness.
Explore your spiritual core - Simply ask yourself questions such as: “Who am I? What is my purpose? What do I value most?” These questions can help you connect with yourself and guide you on a path of enlightenment.
Look for deeper meaning - Looking for deeper meaning in life, analyzing occurring patterns and acceptance of all that is can help you realize you have control over your life choices and that there is much more to the universe.
Say Daily Affirmations – Affirmations are short, powerful statements aimed to affect the conscious and the subconscious mind. They help to believe in the potential of an action desired to manifest. Affirmations are you being in conscious control of your thoughts. When you say them or think them or even hear them, they become the thoughts that create your reality.
Start to Journal - Express what is on your mind to help establish and maintain a focused mind. By writing down your thoughts, you can begin to think clearer, focus and move forward openly.
Think positively - Viewing life in a positive manner can refocus your mind to a happy, healthy place. Eliminating negativity and judgement can be empowering and bring you peace with the knowledge that all is the way it should be.
Do Yoga - "Yoga" means union, and the practice integrates mind, body and spirit together. Yoga is not only for physical wellness, but can also help improve spiritual wellness by reducing emotional and physical strains on the mind and body. Yoga is taught at all levels and can help lower stress, boost the immune system, and lower blood pressure as well as reduce anxiety, depression, fatigue, and insomnia. It is used to care for the entire body, and is beneficial for overall health and wellness.
Learn to Meditate - Meditation is an experience of relaxing the body, quieting the mind, and awakening the spirit. While managing daily life can sometimes be overwhelming and time seems to fly by, it is crucial to devote time daily to self-connection. Whether in the morning when you wake up, during your lunch break, or before you go to sleep, take a mere 10 minutes to meditate each and every day. Incorporating mediation into your daily life can free your mind and foster a stronger relationship with your spiritual wellness. Meditation encourages a deepening of consciousness or awareness, and also facilitates a deeper understanding of self and others. Learn how to relax, improve your focus and reduce stress through meditation.
Take a Trip - Taking time to travel can do wonders for your mental and spiritual wellness. Discovering new places or revisiting comforting destinations can help you reflect, rest and realize what is right about life and redirect you to where you should be going. Traveling can help to have a better connection with yourself and the universe and help with weeding out stressors and setting your mind on the right path for overall wellness.
Use Mandalas - Mandalas are designs (often circular) symbolizing the notion that life is never ending. They offer balancing visual elements, symbolizing unity and harmony. Mandalas are used for meditation purposes, allowing the individual meditating to become one with the universe.
-
In various spiritual traditions, mandalas are used to facilitate meditation and are used in sacred rites as a transformative tool to assist with healing. The goal of the mandala is to serve as a tool on a spiritual journey as it symbolizes cosmic and psychic order.
-
Another form of mandala meditation is to color a mandala of your own. Painting or coloring mandalas allows for our creative brain to come out and play, leading to an altered state where we can perform constructive healing, and gain insight into ourselves and our lives.

If you use mainstream products on a daily basis, odds are you may develop one or more skin conditions like rashes, acne, dermatitis or eczema. Additionally, a more serious health condition could evolve from prolonged exposure to the unhealthy toxins found in every-day products! This severely impacts not only physical wellness, but other dimensions of health and wellness also!
This is because nearly two-thirds of all commercial, and some of the "so-called" natural, product lines contain a toxic cocktail combination of:
- Carcinogens - Directly promote and facilitate cancer growth
- Teratogens - Cause birth defects
- Reproductive Toxins - Harm and impair male & female fertility
- Developmental Toxins - Cause adverse effects on fetal development
- Skin/Sense Organ Toxins - Cause irritation, rashes & dermatitis
- Allergenic Toxins - Cause allergic reactions
- Mutagens - Alter genetic information-DNA
